Small Business

A subject which goes without much mention is how affirmative action degrades small businesses... Many small businesses rely on government and military bidding, especially in the current economic times, to sustain themselves. If small businesses were not equally represented in the bidding process they would certainly suffer and hence, families whose income is dependent on small businesses would also suffer. The funny thing is that businesses aren't represented equally. Govenment bidding regulations have race quotas. Frequently government bids go to bussiness run by minorities despite other companies having much more inexpensive bids. This is an example of how affirmitive action hurts people. Though the most interesting part of part of this brand of reverse racism is who doesn't fall in into the minority status. A short list of who is NOT a minority includes jews, indians, asians, and whites. As far as generalizations are concerned those ethnic groups are known for being able to take care of themselves finacially... Funny isn't it? Affirmitive hurts honet people and wastes tax dollars

Elementry Education......Solution

The advancement of people should not come as an afterthought in their college education and work life, it should be implemented when they are very young. Many studies have shown that children learn the best when they are younger, and that the education given to children can define who they will become. this may be the answer I have been looking for regarding the advancement of minorities. Instead of lowering requirements for minorities, the elementary school education should be completely changed. We all know that the difference in pre-college education is vast, and that the poorer a person is, the worse their schooling is. People of all different races and class levels should be put into schools that integrate them all, so that the gap between races and class levels cease to exist. I believe that this would have a positive influence among children regarding discrimination and prejudice, and that there would cease to be a gap between races.

Everyone is wrong.....except me!

It seems to me that both sides of the argument are ignoring the facts. The proponents claim that no injustice has been done to white males and that all minorities are helped by affirmative action. The men and women against affirmative action fail to see the good that affirmative action has done in bridging the gap between races and genders. Both sides overlook the viewpoints of the other, and my rogerian argument has lead me to believe that a compromise is in order. Affirmative action has helped a lot of minorities, it has also committed injustices against white men, and it cannot be kept nor abolished immediately. There needs to be a plan that focuses on advancing minorities in ways that do not negatively effect white people or lower standards. At this point I have no clue as to what this answer may be.

Affirmative Action Article

This is a little past dated, but the article I found against affirmative action is actually written by a black man. He argues that affirmative action has little positive effects and should be revised or taken out of effect. I thought it was interesting that someone is honest enough to speak out against something that has helped them get jobs.
